Leanne is broadly interested in religion and social change. She carried out fieldwork with urban Baptists in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her dissertation focuses on moral debates among Christians in these churches, and how believers reckon divine and human responsibility in a context of significant political and economic upheaval.

Other research interests include: ritual, ethics, semiotics, theology, values, political economy in Africa
