2007 Summer Field School
Welcome to the Edom Lowland Project Field School Page. The current project represents a follow-up to our 2006 excavation in the Lowlands of Edom (ca. 50 km south of the Dead Sea in Jordan). There are a number of goals for the 2007 expedition: to carry-out two regional archaeological surveys in the Faynan district and to sample several metallurgical slag sites to retrieve samples for paleomagnetic dating. The surveys will help flesh out the ancient Iron Age (ca. 1200 - 500 BCE) mining and metal production system in this part of Biblical Edom. Students earn 12 units of UC academic credit for the quarter spent in the field in Jordan. You will learn state of the art Anthropological, Biblical and Digital archaeology while participating in this 6-week program. Excavations for the Summer of 2007 will take place from July 3—August 5, 2007. To register: if you are a UCSD student, go to UCSD TritonLink and register for the Summer Session: ANPR 194 Middle East Archaeological Field School (12 units). |
